Ian Chappell the former Australian captain believed that during the second phase of upcoming border-Gavaskar trophy there will be the loophole for team India batting line-up in the absence of their captain Virat Kohli. Over the last few years team India batting has revolved around Virat Kohli too much with the kind of consistency he has across the formats. Virat Kohli will be the part of only the first test match at Adelaide.

Ian Chappell further added, the replacement of a player like Virat Kohli in the current team India is next to impossible. He is the greatest batsman of this era undoubtedly and in the situation like Virat will not be part of upcoming full tour makes this situation more difficult for their selectors to find the ideal replacement for Virat Kholi. Although, in such a situation it's ideal time for the young players to prove their authority as next team India captain in the future and try to win the series without Virat Kohli.

While wrote on ESPN Ian Chappell said:

“India also faced a selection dilemma when skipper Virat Kohli departed for home for the birth of his first child following the opening Test. This creates both a big hole in the Indian batting order and an opportunity for one of their talented young players to make a name for himself. What was already shaping up as an exciting tussle now has the added stimulus of crucial selection decisions. The result could well come down to who is the bravest set of selectors."

Will Pucovski would be better opening batsman with warner in test cricket, says Ian Chappell

Joe Burns or Will Pucovski who will be a better opening batsman with David Warner in the series? Joe Burns has been in decent numbers in test cricket so far as compared to the young lad Will Pucovski with his current consistency. While the Australian coach Justin Langer believed that Joe Burns would be the better opening batsman in terms of experience from Will Pucovski.

In the Sheffield Season Will Pucovski has the great numbers with two double hundreds in the recent season after which he has received the call to be part of upcoming border-Gavaskar trophy. Ian Chappell further added:

“ I was flummoxed by the Australian coach's summation of the choice between incumbent Joe Burns and rising star Will Pucovski for the job of David Warner's opening partner.

"...you shouldn't overestimate the value of the partnership. Burns' contributions last summer equated to an aggregate of 256 runs at an average of 32 with two half-centuries. That is the performance of a below-average Test player.  Pucovski has been banging on the door for a while now - something Langer craves. Pucovski has taken a sledgehammer to the entryway by making six centuries at Shield level, three of them doubles; two of those double hundreds came this season. He has well and truly proved he is good enough at that level, so it's time to see if he can succeed in the Test arena."

The upcoming border-Gavaskar trophy will be the 15th edition of this rivalry with 4 test, 3 ODIs and 3 T-20IS along with two 3-day tour matches before the test series starting from 17th December at Adelaide which will be day and night test match.
