The build-up to the T20 World Cup next year is going well for Australia. They’ve found the right combination for their XI with the group of players available to them, but, more importantly, they are winning matches on the bounce.
After brushing aside South Africa in the first match at Darwin, which saw its first ever international fixture after almost two decades, Australia have extended their winning streak to nine.
As with any team on a winning run, someone steps up to the occasion and delivers, helping the team seal victories.
This is the longest winning streak in their T20 history, and with two further matches against South Africa remaining, they are well-placed to extend it further.
Nine matches on the trot may seem to be a bit of a stretch in the international arena, but several teams have done far better over the years, and we’ll be looking at some of them in this article.

Australia (9*)
Australia’s winning streak began in Brisbane 2024, when they claimed a comprehensive victory with a 29-run margin and then quickly followed it up with two more victories at Sydney and Hobart to close out the series 3-0. And they completed a 5-0 whitewash of the West Indies over in the Caribbean islands to stretch their dominance.
New Zealand (9)
Back in the 2022-23 season, the Black Caps had a terrific run in T20S, winning nine encounters in a row against oppositions like Ireland, Scotland, the Netherlands and the West Indies.
Pakistan (9)
Pakistan’s T20 stocks are at a low now; they were a force to be reckoned with for a good part of the last decade. Their 9-match winning streak, in 2018, saw them dominate Australia (5 wins), New Zealand, and Zimbabwe.
Afghanistan (11)
Afghanistan worked their way up to registering their relevance in the T20 format, during which time they made short work of associate nations like Ireland, Oman, and the UAE. But what was truly special about this streak was that they shocked the West Indies in a low-scoring thriller in the Super 10 of the World T20 in 2016, which the team from the Caribbean went on to win.
India (12)
Team India’s twelve successive wins in the 2021-22 season came on the back of their dominant displays against the full member nations such as Afghanistan, New Zealand, West Indies, and Sri Lanka, and also against the associate nations like Scotland and Namibia.
Afghanistan (12)
Afghanistan is the only full member nation to feature twice in this list. After completing a stellar year in the T20 format in 2017, notching up 11 wins on the trot, Afghanistan went one step further in 2018, winning 12 games in a row. They defeated Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, and Ireland, going on to register the longest ever winning streak by a full member nation.
Bermuda (13)
The island nation secured its claim to fame on the T20I honours board with a 13-match winning streak that lasted for almost two years. Bermuda was simply too hot to handle in this phase, overcoming teams like Argentina, Bahamas, Belize, Canada and Cayman with ease. Although the quality of the teams it played against could be debatable, registering 13 wins on the bounce is no mean feat and requires an elite level of consistency and form.
Malaysia (13)
The South East Asian nation had a terrific year in 2022, playing brilliant cricket to post 13 consecutive wins against the likes of Singapore, Bhutan, Thailand, Maldives, Bahrain and Qatar. Playing all but two matches on its home turf at Bangi definitely put the team at an advantage, but it still had to put it to good use and execute its plans with remarkable consistency to pull off such a feat.
Japan (14)
The up-and-coming cricket team from Japan demonstrated their intent to play competitive cricket after stringing together 14 wins in a row. The Asian nation beat teams like Indonesia, Philippines, Mongolia, South Korea, Thailand, and the Cook Islands on its way to accomplishing this feat.
Spain (15*)
Spain is one of the two teams that have collected at least 15 wins in a row. The European nation registered victories against the Isle of Man, Jersey, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Rep, Greece and Finland to take its streak past 15 and remains undefeated.
Uganda (17*)
The African nation has the record of securing the most consecutive wins in T20 International with 17 victories, and the streak is far from over yet. The Ugandan team defeated other African nations like Botswana, Rwanda, Nigeria, Kenya, and upstaged a stronger opponent in the UAE to claim the Pearl of Africa T20I series.
