Manchester United endured the worst campaign in Premier League history, finishing 15th on the table and also losing the Europa League final to fellow strugglers Tottenham Hotspur, missing the only chance to qualify for European football next season. It was a new low point in the club’s history, which saw the sacking of Erik ten Hag in only the second month of the last season and the appointment of Sporting CP’s star manager, Ruben Amorim, but things did not improve. United finishing on just 42 points from 38 games showed how much work needs to be done to pull the club out of the crisis and prevent the continuous slump the club has suffered since Alex Ferguson’s era ended.
However, promises are building for the 2025-26 season, the first full Premier League season under the Portuguese boss, who is determined to change the narrative around the club with the hierarchy backing him with some excellent signings in the summer window. The Red Devils have signed notable players like Matheus Cunha from Wolves, Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, and the talented 22-year-old striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig to significantly strengthen their frontline. 18-year-old Paraguayan left-back Diego Leon is also a promising prospect to have and the club is in the market to get more signings done. The club has also got rid of wantaway stars and deadwood in the hope of building a formidable squad this time.
Ruben Amorim’s side will be hoping to be in the top four conversation again, if not in the title race, with the summer window they had. Not having European football to consider could also provide the team an advantage over others, allowing them to maintain a fresh squad with fewer games to play in a demanding season. Nevertheless, their schedule for the 2025-26 season will be challenging, even though it is better than the rest. Manchester United will begin the new Premier League journey on 17th August 2025 with a blockbuster clash against Arsenal at Old Trafford. Not long after, they compete in the first Manchester derby of the season at Etihad Stadium following the first international break. There will be no time to relax as United will face Chelsea after that. Their season ends with a tricky trip to Brighton on 24 May 2026.
