Although the first innings score of visitors (England) has almost cleared the approach of the hosts (India). But in between some of the surprising decisions taken by Joe Root might have created the uncertainty for a while when the England team has batted out in the second innings and scored 178 runs only. At that point, it was believable to some extent that team India can chase this total of 420 runs in 100 plus overs.
But team India only managed to score 192 runs in the second innings and lost the match by 227 runs and hand over the 1-0 lead in the series to England. With the recent series against Australia by 2-1 under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane no one would have thought about that team India will be brought down to earth from moon in a span of one test match.
There are too many things that went wrong for hosts after losing the toss and then some of the absurd DRS decisions during the match by Virat kohli which was later proved wrong (raises the questions over his choices). While, the England team on the back of their Captain Joe Root registered the win in a very confident way. It will be tough now for the hosts to counter attack the visitors and almost out of box to win the series by the margin of 3-1.
Will team India go to keep Virat kohli as the captain or let him perform as the player without any pressure. Even the exclusion of Kuldeep Yadav in the first test match was quite shocking from the team management, where England has dominated the match on the behalf of their spinners mostly.
In the interaction with Daily Mail, Nassier Hussain believes Joe Root is far better captain than Virat kohli -
"In general, Root has been exceptional. It is India skipper Kohli who has been caught between two stools... I am not a massive fan of him as a tactician, because he tends to follow the ball and be a bit behind play at times, rather than dictating it. But as he and Root know, for all the analysis of actions and decisions, it is results that you are judged on," said Nasser Hussain.
Nasser Hussain further team India should not have changed his captain Ajinkya Rahane after great test series win against Australia -
“After Ajinkya Rahane did so well deputizing in Australia, he has perhaps been a bit reluctant to be as much in-your-face as in the past. Maybe it was in the back of his mind to be a bit more smiley and allow his team freedom of expression. It was noticeable, though, when Rory Burns was out to the first ball of England's second innings that the old, animated Kohli was back. That to me is his strength as a captain — his drive, his passion and his aggression," said Hussain.
