Ethiopian athlete Gemechu Godana won his first Diamond League title after winning the men’s 3000m steeplechase in the 2026 Diamond League Final in Brussels.
Godana completed the race in 8:08.67 minutes, while Moroccan athlete Soufiane El Bakkali (8:10.03) and Kenyan athlete Simon Koech (8:11.15) finished second and third, respectively. Among 13 athletes, Salaheddine Ben Yazide (Morocco) and Wilberforce Chemiat Kones (Kenya) failed to complete the race.

Who is Gemechu Godana?
The 20-year-old Gemechu Godana (from Ethiopia) won his first Diamond League title. In the African Athletics Championships 2026, he claimed his first gold medal in the tournament's history. Before the 2026 Diamond League Final, he had won once in this Diamond League season.
