João Pedro Makes Premier League History
The Chelsea forward had an incredibly eventful afternoon against his former club Brighton, contributing at both ends of the pitch, and even finding the wrong net.
In the process, João Pedro today became only the sixth player to score a goal, assist a goal, and score an own goal in the same Premier League game, and the first player in Chelsea history to achieve the bizarre feat.
He is also the first player to accomplish the feat since Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min against Manchester City in December 2023.
It was certainly an eventful afternoon for the Brazilian. João Pedro first made his mark in the correct penalty area, scoring Chelsea’s third goal before later putting the ball into his own net to hand Brighton a lifeline.
His overall contribution was therefore quite literally a mixed bag. He scored, assisted and scored an own goal in the same match, a statistical combination that is incredibly rare in Premier League football.
Despite the unfortunate own goal, João Pedro can still look back on the afternoon positively. His attacking contribution helped Chelsea secure a crucial victory, while his unusual record ensured that his performance will be remembered for quite some time.

Chelsea’s attention now turns towards a blockbuster Premier League clash against Arsenal at the Emirates next week.
