Joint hosts Sri Lanka, the three-time T20 World Cup finalists and one-time champions (2014), are ready for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Super Eight stage, where the Lankans will face more significant challenges.
Despite some struggles and finishing in the second position in Group B of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, hosts Sri Lanka still impressed with their performances in the group stage. They faced Ireland, Oman, Australia, and Zimbabwe in the group stage fixtures.
Sri Lanka won their first three matches of the group stage by 20 runs, 105 runs, and eight wickets (with 12 balls remaining) against Ireland, Oman, and Australia, respectively. However, in their last game against Zimbabwe, the Lankans suffered a six-wicket defeat (with three balls remaining) in the final over thriller to finish in the second position in Group B.
Sri Lanka will participate in the Super Eight stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 from Group 2, as all the matches of this group will be played in Sri Lanka. In Group 2 of the Super Eight stage, the hosts will face England, New Zealand, and Pakistan. At the end of the Super Eight stage, the top two teams from the group will advance to the Semi-finals.
