Women’s FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 Final - Argentina vs Netherlands

Argentina Women ended the nine-time World Cup winners the Netherlands’ last three World Cup trophy-winning streak, after defeating the hosts in the penalty shootout in the Final of the Women’s FIH Hockey World Cup 2026. It was the third Women’s World Cup gold medal for Argentina. 


Both goals in the full-time game (excluding the penalty shootout decider) came from the penalty corners. The leading goal-scorer of the tournament, Yibbi Jansen, produced the 1-0 lead for the Netherlands in the 30th minute with her eighth goal, while María Granatto equalised the scoreline for Argentina in the 54th minute. 


While the Netherlands recorded three penalty corners, one each in the last three quarters, Argentina secured eight penalty corners in the game, five in the third quarter and three in the final quarter. There were no penalty strokes in the entire game.  


As the full time ended with a 1-1 draw result, the Final entered the penalty shootouts. For the last three-time champions, the Netherlands, only Marijn Veen managed to score, while Pien Sanders, Felice Albers, and Freeke Moes failed on their attempts. Meanwhile, Victoria Granatto, Brisa Bruggesser, and Sofía Cairo scored for Las Leonas, as Argentina won the penalty shootouts by 3-1, where only Zoe Díaz missed her chance.
