At the end of Day 2 in the Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 second round, the hosts and three-time winners Netherlands are on top of Pool E, while England and Argentina are battling for the Semifinals spot, and India need a strong result in their last second round game to stunningly secure the second position.
Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup 2026: Second Round – Day 2
Netherlands 3–1 India
Hosts Netherlands broke Indian hearts by handing a 3-1 defeat on Saturday. After the first two quarters ended with no goals, Duco Telgenkamp broke the deadlock as the hosts scored the opening goal in the 41st minute. Tjep Hoedemakers made the scoreline 2-0 in the 51st minute, while captain Harmanpreet Singh put in a fightback with India’s first goal in the very next minute. In the 55th minute, Thijs van Dam put the hosts 3-1 ahead, which helped the Dutch side to secure a good win.
England 1–3 Argentina
Argentina claimed an important 3-1 victory against England. While Tomás Domene (26’, 36’, & 58’) recorded a match-winning hat-trick, Samuel Hooper’s goal (49’) wasn’t enough for the English team.
With this result, India are still in the fight for the Semis, but they need some strong luck. While the Netherlands must beat England, India need at least a two-goal margin of victory over Argentina to qualify for the knockout stage. On the other hand, the hosts Netherlands still need a draw to confirm their Semifinal spot, while Argentina and England are both looking for their victories in their respective last second-round games to earn the last four qualification tickets.
