This fixture comes at a worse time for Manchester United when they have experienced an awful start to a Premier League campaign. For the first time ever, the club has lost three of their first Premier League games languishing in 13th place on the table. The pressure will add up if their return to the Champions League has a distasteful ending in the first game against an in-form team. With a disappointing away record and just one victory in the last eight meetings in this fixture, United will need inspiration from somewhere otherwise it leaves them with games against Galatasaray and Copenhagen to save themselves.

Bayern Munich have doubts over their midfielder Joshua Kimmich suffering from an inflamed tendon and will be assessed ahead of the match whether he should start. If this is not the case, Konrad Laimer will partner with Leon Goretzka in the heart of the midfield. Manuel Neuer (calf), Kingsley Coman (muscle), Raphael Guerreiro (calf) and Tarek Buchmann (hamstring) are all sidelined.
