Omar Marmoush is set to complete his move from Manchester City to Tottenham, with the deal expected to be officially signed on Thursday. The Egyptian forward will initially join Spurs on loan, with a mandatory obligation to buy worth £50 million plus up to £10 million in add-ons. The agreement was reached earlier this week, while Eintracht Frankfurt will not receive any sell-on percentage from the transfer.
But beyond the transfer itself, Marmoush's arrival could potentially be a game changer for Fantasy Premier League managers. Priced at around £7.0 million, he sits firmly in the mid-priced striker bracket, and that could make him one of the more intriguing options at the position. The big question is whether he can finally show the level of performance that made Manchester City spend heavily to sign him.
Marmoush's Manchester City Career Never Reached Its Potential
Marmoush arrived at Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025 amid enormous hype. City reportedly paid around €75 million (£59m) for the Egyptian, following an extraordinary first half of the season in Germany.
However, his Manchester City career never really went to the next level.
One major reason is fairly obvious: Erling Haaland.
Marmoush was competing for prominence in an attack built around one of the world's most prolific strikers. Although Pep Guardiola tried different ways of accommodating both players, Haaland remained the obvious first-choice No. 9.
As a result, Marmoush increasingly found himself in a supporting or rotational role. He struggled to establish himself as the main attacking outlet and eventually became an afterthought in City's plans. He had only made around eight Premier League starts last season, highlighting just how difficult it was for him to secure consistent minutes.
That is ultimately what has led to his move to Spurs.
Spurs Could Give Marmoush the Freedom He Needs
Football has repeatedly shown us what can happen when a talented forward finally steps out of the shadow of another superstar.
A perfect example is Karim Benzema at Real Madrid. While playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema was an outstanding forward but was not always the primary attacking focal point. After Ronaldo left, Benzema became the undisputed main man and reached another level, eventually winning the Ballon d'Or.
We saw something similar with Julian Alvarez at Manchester City.
Alvarez was an extremely talented forward but spent much of his City career operating behind Haaland in the pecking order. His move to Atletico Madrid gave him a more prominent role, and he subsequently demonstrated a greater level of attacking responsibility and output.
Marmoush could now have a similar opportunity.
At Tottenham, he should have a much clearer path to becoming the main striker under Roberto De Zerbi. Instead of constantly operating in Haaland's shadow, Marmoush can potentially become the focal point of Spurs' attack.
That could be hugely important for his FPL prospects.
£7.0M Could Make Marmoush Excellent FPL Value
For £7.0 million, FPL managers are not necessarily looking for a guaranteed premium-level goalscorer. They want value, regular starts, and the potential to outperform their price.
Marmoush could tick all three boxes.
If he becomes Spurs' regular starting striker, he immediately becomes interesting because consistent minutes are arguably the biggest question surrounding him. At Manchester City, even when he was fit and available, there was always competition for his position.
At Spurs, that situation should be very different.
If De Zerbi can get the best out of Marmoush, he could become a reliable source of goals, assists, and FPL points without requiring a premium investment.
And we should not forget what Marmoush was doing before Manchester City came calling.
Remember the Frankfurt Numbers.
Before joining City, Marmoush was one of the most exciting forwards in European football.
During the first half of the 2024/25 Bundesliga season with Eintracht Frankfurt, he recorded an extraordinary 15 goals and 10 assists in just 17 league appearances.
That is 25 goal contributions in 17 games.
Those numbers explain why City were willing to spend so heavily to bring him to the Premier League in the first place.
Of course, it would be unrealistic to expect him to simply replicate that output at Tottenham. The Premier League is different, Spurs are different, and Marmoush is now at a different stage of his career.
But if De Zerbi can bring him anywhere close to that level again, £7.0 million could prove to be an absolute bargain.
The key phrase, however, is "if he reaches that level."
FPL Verdict: Monitor Marmoush First
For FPL managers who love a high-risk, high-reward pick, Marmoush could be tempting immediately.
But our advice would be to avoid rushing into the gamble.
The long-term potential is certainly there, and if he establishes himself as Tottenham's main striker, he could become one of the most interesting £7.0m options in FPL.
However, managers should first monitor whether he immediately gets into the starting XI, how De Zerbi uses him, and, most importantly, whether his playing time is consistent.
Once those questions are answered, Marmoush could become a very attractive mid-priced striker.
For now, wait and watch. If the minutes are there and the performances follow, the £7.0m price tag could suddenly look extremely cheap.
