New Zealand played all their matches in the group stage in India, as their Group D challenges were against Afghanistan, South Africa, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates. Starting the tournament with a five-wicket win against Afghanistan by successfully chasing the 183-run target in 17.5 overs.
New Zealand then recorded a 10-wicket victory against the United Arab Emirates after successfully chasing the 174-run target in 15.2 overs without losing any wickets. After that, the Blackcaps suffered a seven-wicket defeat against South Africa, as the Proteas reached the target in 17.1 overs after losing three wickets. In their last group stage fixture, New Zealand beat Canada by eight wickets after successfully chasing the 174-run target in 15.1 overs.
Although they finished in the second position in the in Group D with six points after four matches, New Zealand were already seeded to Group 2 of the Super Eight stage, where they will face Pakistan, hosts Sri Lanka, and England. New Zealand will play all their matches in the Super Eight stage in Sri Lanka, where the top two teams of the group will advance to the Semi-finals of the tournament.
