The WWE Championship is once again becoming important
The WWE Championship had lost a lot of the shine and importance after WrestleMania 40 when Roman Reigns lost the title to Cody Rhodes. Cody Rhodes was a good champion, but the number of top superstars that were trying to win the belt was lower than before. Then the World Heavyweight Championship became the title that gained a lot of prestige, and the top Raw superstars were fighting over that title.
The WrestleMania main events for the last 2 years for this title have been the worst. The one time that the title felt important was during the John Cena run, where he fought CM Punk, Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam 2025. After SummerSlam the World Heavyweight Championship started getting more important, and that increased after WrestleMania 42 when Roman Reigns became the world heavyweight champion.
However, that all seems to be changing after CM Punk has become the WWE Champion. CM Punk is one of the absolute top WWE superstars, and he is a babyface that the fans love. Sami Zayn was the WWE Champion before CM Punk, and he has gone full-blown heel as he thinks the WWE title was stolen from him, and he is one of the WWE superstars trying to win. Then there is Kevin Owens, who recently returned from injury and had an awesome match on SmackDown for the WWE Championship.
Sami Zayn cost Kevin Owens the title, so the best friends are in a feud. Gunther is the Ring General, and he is also in the WWE Championship picture. One cannot forget the former WWE champions Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. They will have a match at Sunday night's Main Event, but the WWE Championship is indirectly involved.
The winner of that match will get a strong footing to challenge CM Punk for the WWE Championship. Therefore, the WWE superstars that are in the WWE Championship picture are the current champion CM Punk, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Gunther, Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. This is a very healthy title division, and WWE can have these men feud over this title for months, and it will be very entertaining. WWE Money in the Bank is on 10th October, and there is a lot of time to build storylines. WWE can also do a multi-man match, and it could steal any show in the year. It has taken 2 years to get here, but the WWE Championship finally feels like the most important title.
