Manchester City Season Preview 2021-22

The stage is set for the Premier League. The 20 teams will be geared up to survive and battle in one of the most competitive leagues in the world. Here we will take a look at the season preview of the defending champions, Manchester City. The team from Manchester continued their domestic dominance with yet another title, finishing comfortably at the top ahead of the chasing pack.

The Cityzens will start again as the title favourites but this time their competitors have strengthened their squad as well. Whether Pep leads his team to yet another title or will they be dethroned is there to be seen.

How Manchester City fared in 2020-21?

Manchester City had a slow start to their season as they took time to settle in. Kevin De Bruyne’s early injury did not help either. However, City did get its mojo back and a resurgent Gundogan led their title charge. City was dominant in the domestic cup campaigns as well which ended with a Carabao Cup trophy. In the FA Cup, they lost to Tuchel’s Chelsea in the semi-final.

While Manchester City was breezing their way through to yet another Premier League title, their attention was also on the UCL. The target was to reach the UEFA Champions League final for the first time in the club’s history which they eventually achieved. However, they failed at the final hurdle as it was Chelsea again who stopped them from winning the Champions League.

Transfer Activity

With the squad currently at Guardiola’s helm, there wasn’t any need to splash the cash on any new signings. However, the possibility of signing Jack Grealish was too good to ignore and City did make a move. Adding Grealish in the already star-studded squad has only made their quest for a title stronger.

Manchester City have also been linked with Harry Kane, and the manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed the rumours. However, the deal is still in process as Tottenham are firm on their stance of keeping. Irrespective of what happens with the Kane deal, Manchester City have an excellent squad to fight on all fronts and add more silverware.

What to expect in the upcoming season?

The signing of Jack Grealish has the fans excited. Grealish and De Bruyne link-up is something Pep would look to capitalise on. Both are capable of playing numerous positions which only adds another dimension to the Manchester City attack.

Manchester City will again start the season as title favourites but the challenge is expected to be tougher this time around. Winning the Champions League will be a target this season along with the domestic trophies.

Prediction for 2021-22

Manchester City finished first, 12 points ahead of Manchester United last time around. However, a closer finish is expected this time. The title race will go down to the wire. Manchester City will be the team to beat, however, matches against the rest of the top 6 will go a long way in deciding the title.

Having lost in the Champions League final, they will be looking to avenge the defeat with another attempt for European Glory. Another run to the final is expected as they start as favourites along with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Either the Champions League or a Premier League trophy will be a successful season for Manchester City along with the FA Cup or Carabao Cup trophy.
