Football is back, and we are here with the Premier League Team of the Week. EPL Week 1 was simply outstanding, as football fans were yet again accustomed to the pure adrenaline rush of first-class English Football. Top clubs such as Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, and Tottenham were able to secure victories, while other heavyweights such as Manchester United and Chelsea failed to earn all 3 points. Let's not waste anymore time then, here is our EPL team of the week 1.
(Note: Players from Leeds United vs Everton won't be included in this list since it's a midweek fixture)
Premier League/EPL Team of the GameWeek 1
Goalkeeper
Robin Roefs ( Sunderland)
In what was one of the most shocking results of the Premier League weekend, newly-promoted Sunderland thrashed West Ham 3-0 at the Stadium of Light. With a heroic display that saw him make 4 saves and help his team maintain a clean sheet, Robin Roefs is our EPL Team of the Week goalkeeper.
Defenders
Rico Lewis ( Manchester City)
The rumours are that Nottingham Forest are progressing in a deal to sign Rico Lewis from Manchester City. However, after his stellar performance that saw him seal an assist in City's 4-0 thrashing of Wolves, it may not be the best idea to let him go.
Daniel Ballard ( Sunderland)
In what would be a performance that he remembers throughout his career, Daniel Ballard put in a heroic shift at defense for Sunderland. Not only did he help his club keep a clean sheet against West Ham, but he even managed to score a goal against the Hammers.
Riccardo Calafiori ( Arsenal)
Arsenal star Riccardo Calafiori scored the only goal in Arsenal's first Premier League game of the season against rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford. As the season progresses, the Gunners might look back at his heading goal as a potential season-defining moment.
Rayan Aït-Nouri ( Manchester City)
We have yet another Manchester City defender in this list, and it is new summer signing Rayan Aït-Nouri who made his impressive debut for the Citizens. The full-back impressed with his work rate and defensive contributions, which ironically came against his former club Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Midfielders
Antoine Semenyo ( Bournemouth)
Antoine Semenyo is the only player in this list that ended up on the losing team, which is a testament to his quality as a player. The Bournemouth star was racially abused during their game against Liverpool, but he ended up scoring both goals in his club's 4-2 loss.
Mohammed Kudus ( Tottenham Hotspur)
Another player in this list is Semenyo's international teammate and Tottenham's new signing Mohammed Kudus, who joined from West Ham. The new Spurs star combined excellently with teammate Richarlison, providing him with 2 assists in his premier League debut for Tottenham.
Tijjani Reijnders ( Manchester City)
Manchester City's midfield signing from AC Milan introduced himself to the Premier League in the most stylish manner possible. Reijnders showed his class in midfield with a superstar performance that saw him score one and create another for teammate Erling Haaland in their thrashing of Wolves.
Habib Diarra ( Sunderland)
Sunderland's superstar signing of the Summer Habib Diarra showed everyone exactly why they paid the big bucks to bring him to the club, as the Senegalese star put up a dominant performance in midfield to control the game and help Sunderland beat West Ham.
Forwards
Erling Haaland (Manchester City)
After an underwhelming 2024-25 Premier League season from his usual standard, Erling Haaland returned with a bang and showed the world why he's one of the best strikers in Europe. His brace against Wolves is undoubtedly just one of many more to come this season.
Richarlison (Tottenham Hotspur)
Similar to Haaland, Richarlison has also silenced his critics with a wonderful performance against Burnley. He scored 2 goals, including one which could be Potential Premier League Goal of the Season contender. The Brazilian seems to be on the right track under new Spurs manager Thomas Frank.
So the following is our Premiere League Team of the Week for Gameweek 1:
That's it from us for GW 1 Premier League Team of the Week. See you soon for EPL Team of the Week GW 2!
