Today is the final day of Laver Cup 2022 and what a brilliant tournament it has been a mind blowing 3 days of team tennis as we have gotten to see the very best players from around the world compete and give the fans so much joy. There were 2 players especially in Day 2 that were the standouts and we will talk about the results of yesterday and then we will look forward to today where there will be 3 points awarded for each win so it will be the most important day today.
Before we get into the results, I have to say that I cannot wait for the Laver Cup next year but the sad part is that there will be no Roger Federer to play from next year but he can be the mentor of Team Europe and we will hopefully get to see Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic yet again. So, let’s now get to the results of Day 2.
Day 2 Results
Matteo Berrettini vs Felix Auger Aliassime
This was the first match on Day 2 and what a cracker it was as we saw the rising star Matteo Berrettini take on Felix Auger Aliassime. It was a match between equals and the match was of the highest quality as it went for over 2 hours and 15 minutes and the crowd watching was getting entertained. Matteo Berrettini won the first set 7-6 after a tie break when it was 6-6. Then in the second set Felix Auger Aliassime came back strongly to level it 1-1 when he won the set 6-4. Then we had the match tie break and here Matteo Berrettini had just a little more as he won it 10-7 and thus giving 2 points to Team Europe.
Cameron Norrie vs Taylor Fritz
This was the second match of the day and in this match we first saw the dominance of Taylor Fritz in the first set as he won it easily by 6-1 and it looked like he was going to win easily. However, Cameron Norrie came back superbly in the second set as he won that 6-4 and we were going to another match tie break. This time Taylor Fritz just won with the skin of his teeth by 10-8 and this was a remarkable performance by Cameron Norrie as well after being out in the first set.
Novak Djokovic vs Francis Tiafoe
This is the match where Novak Djokovic showed his class and beat the in form player in Francis Tiafoe with such ease. It was the first match back in 2 months for Novak Djokovic and the way he was playing, it looked like he was playing everyday. The first set was a walk in the park has Novak won it 6-1. In the second set Francis Tiafoe raised his game to the level of Novak but still it was not enough as the best player in the world showed again that he was here for a long time as he won the second set 6-3 and gave 2 points to Team Europe.
Matteo Berrettini and Novak Djokovic vs Jack Sock and Alex De Minaur
The last match of Day 2 and it was a doubles match and it this match yet again the 2 players who won their matches for Team Europe came together and they were tested in the first set as it was 5-5 at one point but the brilliance of Novak Djokovic and Matteo Berrettini ensured that they won the first set 7-5 and then in the second set it was easier as they won it by 6-2 and Team Europe leads by 8-4
Day 3 Preview
Matteo Berrettini and Andy Murray vs Felix Auger Aliassime and Francis Tiafoe
This is the first match of Day 3 and for every win the Team gets 3 points on Day 3. The teams look great, especially Team World as they have the upper hand in this match.
Novak Djokovic vs Felix Auger Aliassime
Novak Djokovic is the favorite in this match and Team Europe can be sure of 3 points coming from this match as Felix is not at Novak's level.
Stephanos Tsitsipas vs Francis Tiafoe
This will be a very competitive match as both are in form players and they both will be looking to win this match for their teams.
Casper Rudd vs Taylor Fritz
The last match of the 2022 Laver Cup and Team Europe will want to ensure their win before this match and Casper Rudd can enjoy this match without any pressure.
